The role of Rivers Engineer is responsible for supporting the Council's river and flood control activities, functions and responsibilities. In this integral role, you will assist the Rivers Manager in the investigation, analysis and reporting of engineering matters; particularly river control works, flood protection and mitigation measures. The Rivers Engineer will also assist in managing the implementation of Council policy with regard to natural hazards; by promotion, regulation, design and supervision of approved works. Specifically, this role will initially be supporting the project management and implementation of a substantial flood protection upgrade in the Taranaki region.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in river management, a recognised tertiary qualification and/or certification such as Bachelor of Engineering, AMICE, REA or NZCE. You will be able to demonstrate proven technical skills and the ability to design and implement remedial actions for a wide range of circumstances. Your extensive experience will include river and flood control activities (including contract and project management) together with practical knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, open channel flow, systems and design. Demonstrable knowledge of the relevant legislation is important.
